I posted this at Terra Firma too, but I thought I'd post it here for the shippy perspective!

Okay, we really haven't had much story yet, that's the way comics are, so we don't even have a full ep's material to work with, but I have to say, I'm liking watching John and Aeryn as parents. It's not long after PKW, and Deke's still very young (though, alas, typical comic or TV baby, he holds his bottle, and he sits up in a backpack....and jabbers a little), so they're just figuring this all out. I'm sure they're both sleep deprived (though neither has complained of it), and Aeryn's getting really frustrated trying to deal with the basics...crying, dirty diapers, all that jazz. Got a kick out of her pointing out to John in the second issue that *he* claims to have had experience when his younger sister was a baby, so *he* should be the one to take care of Deke while she goes and kicks some ass.

Not surprisingly, he doesn't buy it -- and I love that they decided (even though their plans always go south) that they should just take him. I can see both of them thinking that way -- that he's safer with them than being stuck somewhere else.
I loved that they're still John and Aeryn, walking down the street, checking things out, both of them aware of people following them or not, John running ruses to get info (I don't think Aeryn was at all amused with the "Little Woman" routine at the hotel, LOL!), etc....just with the little guy in tow. Loved John's response to Deke's gurgled comment.

I loved the ear plugs discussion in issue 2. They're not used to thinking about needing protection for three, and John's immediately prepared to sacrifice his plugs for Deke. (Loved Aeryn saying his hearing was bad enough already....

) I could absolutely "hear" that whole discussion, including the point where time's running out and John comes up with the "We'll both put our hands over his ears" solution.... Great scene!
I saw someone mention in another thread that they thought Aeryn was being too overprotective of the baby, and John not protective enough, but to me, particularly once they're captured by Scorp and he's taken the baby for whatever nefarious purposes he has in mind, it makes perfect sense that Aeryn's the one overtly freaking out, because in her mind, she's the protector, and she shouldn't have let anything (even potentially) happen to her child. And while I can see that John might have lost it also (because he's definitely a papa bear from everything we've seen in the past), I like that he kept it a little more together. I see it as, he feels he needs to hold Aeryn back and calm her down and comfort her (something like him grabbing her when she's trying to stop Zhaan from sacrificing herself back in season 3). They're not going to be able to make any attempts to save their sorry asses until they're all calmed down.
So, anyway, I'm really enjoying watching their interaction, and the way they're dealing with their son. It rings true to me -- though surely they'd've bought that kid some sleepers by now!
