It keeps logging me out....

Hmmm ... shouldn't be happening.  It's not happening to me.

Check your cookie handling, Lee.  In your internet browser, make sure it's allowing the forum cookie, and "session" cookies.

It's not a problem I have with any other boards including TF or the old Bunny Board, Beth.  I'll check my AOL settings when I figure out where they are, and also see if I have the same problem with just plain old IE (which is what I used when I copied over the two stories I've done so far), after I get back from mailing stuff to the kids....  I expect to have the rest of the afternoon to play, so hopefully I'll get a lot of stuff transferred over today....  I'll let you know if it's an AOL-specific problem.

Lee, if it keeps doing it, go into your Profile, and change to the Default (SMF) theme.  See if it keeps doing it on that theme.

It's very strange, Beth....still in AOL 'cos I haven't tried anything else....but it only does it when I got UP a level from here, or from my board, or whatever (whether with the home button, or the hierarchy at the top).  And them I'm not sure it really "takes" because if I go from there (still being called "guest") into my board, it calls me aeryncrichton again....  I'll play with it while I'm adding stuff....

ETA:  I don't even have to go down into another board to get it to recognize me....all I have to do is refresh....  Maybe there's still some caching going on somewhere.  I'll try the other theme, though.

Oh, not caching, but we're probably still in propogation.  It's not as disruptive because we're not *changing* sites, but remember how AOL was always the last to catch on during propogation?  Maybe that's what's doing it.  I'm only guessing though.

It's definitely only happening on AOL, at least, vs. IE.  I should try Firefox, too.  Anyway, not seeing it at all on IE, but it is still happening on AOHell....  Fingers crossed it's just an AOL propagation issue. 

ETA:  It's not happening on Firefox, either.

Yeah, it really is just a nuisance.  It's working much better to use IE to do my transferring anyway -- I've got IE7, and I just open tabs on the various boards and go from one to the other and it's working VERY well, while working from AOL would be much more of a pain even if it was working correctly.  BUT, I do use AOL as my default browser just because of the e-mail aspect, so if it doesn't quit, it's definitely going to be a nuisance.  Ah, well.  We'll see how it goes.

I can see why it would happen on one board, and not the other, especially since both are on SMF 1.1.7.  Let me go see if there's anything at the SMF forum though. 

I found a couple of topics dealing with people being logged out.  I checked everything listed on one, and this board is exactly the same as TF, so I don't think that's it.  In the other thread, the first thing the SMF gurus asked was if the person having a problem was using AOL.

Based on what you described in Reply #5, I'm betting it's AOL's method of caching (or whatever they do) dealing with propogation.  I've doublechecked everything I could think or that was suggested at the SMF forum, and it all looks okay.  If it doesn't clear up by Monday (72 hours), I'll go post a query at the SMF forum.

Fingers crossed!!  The symptoms really seemed to suggest propogation and AOL's system of caching, but I didn't want to say that was it for sure for fear of inviting the Evil Gods of Technology to strike me down.

Oh, and just so you know....it is still turning me into a GUEST occasionally.  I just have to refresh or drop into a different board and it clears up, but it's weird.  It's NEVER done that at TF or any other board....

Yep, it's aol. I've used IE and it's fine, but aol is what I normally use and it doesn't do that anywhere else so.... I don't know.
