Title: Bonding Moments
Author: Auna
Setting: Roughly 13-14 cycles after PKW
Rating: G
Beta’s: Word
Summary: stranded on a strange planet
Author’s note: I wrote this very short piece during my lunch at work on notepaper, intended for the Beach Bash.  But I was unable to get it onto the computer until today.  So it’s late, but this is my contribution to the Terra Firma Family Beach Bash.

********************************

The night sky overhead was littered with thousands of tiny stars, glittering in the darkness.  None of the five moons were out, and the air had a definite chill nipping at D’Argo’s nose.

He raised his head, peering over to the dark mound beside him, snuggly wrapped in the thin, silver thermal sheeting.  “Pssst,” he whispered between his teeth.  The mound didn’t stir.  “Hey,” he whispered slightly louder.  “You awake?”

This time, the mound groaned slightly, and adjusted before starting a faint snore.  “Hey!” D’Argo said loudly, loosing all pretence of innocence, nudging the mound with his foot.  “You awake?”

At last the mound sat up, his brownish-grey hair disheveled and his eyes desperately trying to open.  “I’m up!  I’m up!” he mumbled, patting the ground next to him in search of his pulse pistol.  “Where are they?”

“Where are who?” D’Argo asked innocently.

“The alien bad guys you woke me up for.”

“There aren’t any, Dad.  I want to share the blanket.”

“What?” John asked, slightly confused and irritated.

“I want to share the blanket.  It’s cold out here.”

“You want to share my blanket,” the older man asked, pointing to the silvery sheet and slanting a look at his son that made the boy want to roll his eyes.

“Yes,” he managed to answer without giving in to the childish impulse.  He was rather proud of himself.

“This blanket.”

“Yes.’

“The one I’m under right now.”

“Yes.”

“I thought you were too big share a blanket with your old man.  I believe ‘wus’ was the word used.”

“Come on, Dad.  Sheesh.”

To John’s credit, he scooted over, leaving space for his adolescent son to crawl into.  “Better?” he asked, knowing how badly it would irritate the boy.

“Yes father,” was the tolerant reply.

“Need me to snuggle closer?” he asked antagonistically.

“No!”

“Just making sure.  When your mother and sisters get here tomorrow, I don’t want it said that I left you out to freeze.”

“You are not going to tell them about this.”

“Of course I am.  Just as soon as they touch down”

“You suck.”

“I know son.  It’s a gift.  Goodnight.”

There was no reply as his son sulked on his side of the blanket, and John smiled to himself as he closed his eyes to fall back asleep.  He had a very nice dream to get back to that involved long black hair and sultry smiles.
