...and how krad handled the relationship between John, Aeryn and Deke?  (I'm still not sold on the name.  I loved that he had been named for D'Argo.)

Well, krad actually handled the Crichton's relationship pretty well.  I figured Aeryn would be getting frustrated with the baby and John would be taking over even when he maybe shouldn't. John is trying for all he's worth to find a place to settle down and I get the feeliing Aeryn would rather be out shooting someone. LOL  As far as Deke goes, not liking the name and don't really buy the reasoning, but what can you do? Rockne says it's Deke, it's Deke. My biggest problem with him is the art. In the comic he looks a little...weird. Like he's not an infant at all. Maybe an older alien man face on an infant body? LOL Reminds me of the movie out now, the curious case of benjamin button. But that's just me.

LOL, Chris, he just looks like a comic book baby to me....but then, I kinda skim over the art....

I never had any problem with the idea that John was going to call the baby something other than D'Argo.  It's just John's way to give people nicknames.  And I'm not actually surprised by the idea that John is having trouble actually calling the kid "D'Argo."  He's still missing the big guy a lot.  agreed  I've always given the baby a nick in my stories -- Little D, D, Dar, something.

BUT....Aeryn, in my mind, always calls him "D'Argo."  Aeryn's just not a nickname kinda jirl, you know?  So when she called him Deke, I was kinda non-plussed.....  Hmmm, I should probably mention that to krad over at TF!

And I'm totally happy with how Rock and krad are handling the Sun-Crichtons.  John's trying to hard to find some nice place to settle down and have a "normal" life, and Aeryn's kinda letting him try, but pretty clearly has a feeling this is NOT going to work out.  And I can see her being frustrated with trying to deal with an infant.  She likes rules -- and as everyone who's every dealt with a baby knows, there are no rules!  laugh

It'll be interesting to see how this goes with more story!

Mine FINALLY arrived!!  veryhappy

First of all, since there's always such a brouhaha at TF about this, I had mixed feelings about the artwork.  My only exposure to comic book art has been reading The Watchmen, and I used to collect and read several Marvel 'books'.  That's a tough standard to use because Marvel has always been at the top of the heap, which means they draw in and can pay the absolute best in the industry.  So throw that standard out.  Boom ain't Marvel.  Sorry, that's just the way it is.

I was least impressed by the renderings of John and Aeryn.  John, especially, doesn't look like John to me.  The rest of the characters seemed pretty good, and I like the "camera angles" they use.  I think it was Lee that mentioned that some of the frames are 'tilted' to create Moya's rocking and rolling, just like they did at times with the camera.  I like that.  I thought Rygel looked great, Noranti passable, and some of the exterior shots were good.

As for storyline and all that jazz ...

I'm slowly adjusting to Deke.  I've already worked it into a fanfic, but in my story it's just one in a long list of nicknames that John has for the kid, and as Lee said, my Aeryn is resisting John's efforts call him anything but D'Argo.  laugh  I have difficulty with Aeryn accepting Deke so quickly and readily ... but they don't have a lot of page space to deal with it.  I'd be more critical of it if this were a novel-length book.

I didn't feel like the first issue was the first 'act' of an episode.  I felt more like it was the 'cold open' leading up to the credits.  I'll be interested to see how fast they move through the plot in the next issue.  I acknowledge that they needed to do some recap and setup in this issue, but even after allowing for that, I think it's going to be tough to jam an entire 'episode' into four issues, even if they were to resort to ending with "To Be Continued".   hair  tantrum  gaah

My personal nitpick was using stock lines out of the show, some of which date back to Season 1, instead of venturing out into new territory.  'Slicker than snot', for instance, and yanking "Tough noogies" out of WGFA.  I'd like to see new Crichtonisms, rather than recycling the old ones.  God knows it might be difficult to keep up with Ben and an entire room full of maniac writers when it comes to spewing out pop culture references, but the comic doesn't need and should devote the space to a flood of them coming out of John.  I'll put the proviso on this that we don't know anything about the approval process, so this might be something that Rockne or Henson's wanted in the comics.  Still ... NEW stuff.  I want new stuff!  Not dialogue reruns!!

Yeah, I agree about this feeling more like the opening teaser than a fourth of an episode.  I do think they were using it to introduce both the backstory to newbies, and the new setting to old fans.  Sort of the "previously on Farscape" plus the teaser.  We'll see how the remaining 3/4 of the story gets spread out.  (I'm also curious to read Rockne's script outlines -- that will give us an idea of how much of this comes from Rockne and his TV experience, and how much comes from krad and his comic experience.  Jim and Kelson, by the way, said that's often a failing of people coming from television into comics -- they structure the story for TV acts, instead of comics.)  That's always the trouble with comics, though....there's very limited space for actual story.  I usually wait till I collect a chunk (or an entire miniseries if that's what it is) before reading, because I find it frustrating to read little chunks a month apart.  But, this being Farscape, I had to just go ahead and read it NOW.  Actually, I'm beginning to feel the need to reread it and get the material a little more firmly in my head, which I guess says something positive about the comic.  Or something crazy about me.  laugh

I suspect my Aeryn is going to continue to resist "Deke."   :-[

Since I use old stock lines in my fic, LOL, that didn't bother me, Crash.  But I'd definitely like to see them use some new ones.  Guess we'll see what they do.  You know, it'll be interesting to see how the fan reaction influences later issues, if at all.  Krad seems to be taking people's reactions seriously even if he understands you can't please everyone.  I'd guess the first miniseries is finished, but we might see some influences in the second one.

At the moment, I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth.  It's new Farscape, and I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt.  (Of course, I did the same with season 4, and at this point, there is STILL  a chunk of early season 4 that I really hate to watch, which is currently keeping me from finishing a rewatch!  LOL!  So, we'll see when we get the rest of the story!)

Both my John and Aeryn are resisting.  *I* am resisting.  NO, NO, NO!!!  I won't do it!!!  tantrum

In the first fic where I've needed to deal with (WIP), I've handled it by having Deke be just one of a variety of nicknames.  I think I'll probably keep that up in the future, depending on whether 'Deke' starts to grow on me.  (Probably like a fungus ... unpleasant and preferably disposed of as quickly as possible.  devil )

"First thing we should do after we collect DJ is ..."

"I thought you decided we were calling him Deke."

"I thought you didn't like Deke."

"I don't, but I like it better than DJ.  Why don't we just call him D'Argo.  That's his name."

"So ... as soon as we collect DJ ..."

Too true....

As much as I don't like it, my John doesn't seem to be having trouble with it (though I can see your way of handling it, too -- John not happy calling him D'Argo, but not really sure WHAT to call him, LOL!).  But my Aeryn's definitely not going for it.   laugh
